Man designates the point where he stands as 'zero'. He runs to his right , eventually gets tired and calls it 'plus infinity'. Then he tries to run to his left, again gets tired and calls it 'minus infinity'. His vanity has blinded him from seeing the bigger picture.
Consider this example. What is the largest thing or the greatest distance that man has known, say a billion light years. And what is the smallest thing or the least count of the most precise measuring instrument ever, say a billionth part of nanometer. Imagine you have this superhuman power that you can shrink down at your will to whatever size you want. In doing so, you may first shrik down to the size of an ant, then an amoeba, then an electron, but you still want to continue to go smaller and smaller. Here lies the catch. You do not realise that you are in a continuous loop. It has no end. Eventually you will be on the other side, approach 'plus infinity' from behind and suddenly find yourself a billions of light years in size. You continue to shrink, you will cross the 'zero' mark or your original size but still be in the same loop.
Same is the thing with time. If you transport yourself a billion years in the future, you might just end up in a few billion years in the past.
